Last updated: 14 October 2026 How many developers pull JavaScript trading tools into their code? We took daily download counts from the public npm registry for 13 trading libraries: exchange and broker connectors, technical-indicator packages and charting tools, covering 14 October 2025 to 13 October 2026.
ccxt, the open-source library that connects code to over 100 crypto exchanges, was downloaded 525,885 times from npm between 13 September and 12 October 2026. Its last 30 days were 125% above the 30 days starting 14 October 2025.
TradingView’s free charting library, lightweight-charts, dwarfs everything else at 5,084,006 downloads, because it is built into many websites, not only trading tools.
MetaApi’s SDK, which lets JavaScript code drive MetaTrader 4 and 5 accounts (the platforms many forex prop firms use), had 33,878 downloads, up 247% on a year earlier.
Not everything grew. Older libraries such as tulind (-48%) and trading-vue-js (-50%) lost ground over the year, while newer indicator packages like trading-signals rose 456%.

Method
We chose well-known trading libraries in four groups: exchange and broker connectors, MetaTrader access, technical indicators and charting. Two candidates were dropped: ccxt-ws had 8 downloads last month, and TradingView’s full charting library is not published on the public npm registry.
Counts are as reported by npm. Year-on-year change compares the most recent 30 days with the first 30 days of the one-year window the API returned.
Caveats
A download is not a user. Automated builds, CI servers and mirrors re-download packages many times, and a package that other popular packages depend on picks up downloads it did not earn directly.
lightweight-charts is used far beyond trading, so its total says little about trading activity on its own.
These are counts of developer activity, not a measure of how many people trade with prop firms.
