Last updated: 2 October 2026 When platforms pull licenses or processors cut firms off, prop firms freeze, migrate or close. This timeline lists only events we can date from a primary source: a firm notice (with archive), a processor’s own policy page, a platform vendor’s dated post, or a court docket. Trade press is labeled secondary and never used alone to set a date.
Six primary-dated shocks, from MetaQuotes freezes to a payment-processor lawsuit. Every row below rests on a firm notice, a processor policy page, a platform vendor post, or a federal docket — not trade-press paraphrase alone.
February 2024 was a platform-license cluster. True Forex Funds’ own homepage said MetaQuotes had “terminated our licenses” (first Wayback capture with that notice: 2 Feb 2024). Match-Trader’s own 21 Feb 2024 post describes Funding Pips migrating about 100,000 accounts after its platform was blocked.
Payment rails tightened in writing. Stripe’s restricted-businesses list added “Funded prop trading” between 25 Mar and 8 Apr 2024 (Wayback). On 2 Oct 2026 the live page lists the same phrase under Prohibited Businesses.
A futures prop firm sued its processor. TopstepTrader LLC v. Nuvei Technologies Inc. was filed 14 Sep 2026 (D. Ariz.). We link the docket; complaint-body details wait on a primary pleading copy.
Timeline
| Date | Type | Who | What (primary) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024-02-02 | platform license | True Forex Funds (firm notice) | True Forex Funds published a homepage notice that MetaQuotes had terminated its MT licenses and that it was freezing services temporarily. “Due to a non-sense reason, MetaQuotes has terminated our licenses, and therefore, we have to freeze our services TEMPORARILY.” | Primary · Archive |
| 2024-02-21 | platform migration | Match-Trade Technologies (platform vendor) | Match-Trader published a dated case study saying Funding Pips' trading platform had been blocked and that Funding Pips migrated roughly 100,000 accounts onto Match-Trader. “This is exactly the setback a well-known proprietary trading broker, Funding Pips, encountered when their trading platform was blocked. Seeking a fast track to restoring their trading operations for a substantial number of 100,000 accounts, they opted for the Match-Trader platform.” | Primary |
| 2024-04-08 | payment policy | Stripe (processor policy) | Stripe's restricted-businesses list gained an explicit 'Funded prop trading' line under Restricted Businesses (as of the 8 Apr 2024 archive). By our 2 Oct 2026 live check the same phrase sits under Prohibited Businesses; we do not yet have an archive-dated move between those headings. “Funded prop trading” | Primary · Archive |
| 2024-04-17 | platform migration | SurgeTrader (firm notice) | SurgeTrader's homepage stated it was migrating all traders to a new platform and that the page would be restored when migration finished. “SurgeTrader is currently migrating all traders to A NEW platform. This page will be restored when our migration is complete.” | Primary · Archive |
| 2024-05-13 | firm closure | True Forex Funds (firm notice) | True Forex Funds replaced its site with a permanent-closure notice citing financial insolvency (after the February MetaQuotes freeze). “We regret to inform you that True Forex Funds has ceased all operations and will be closing permanently due to financial insolvency.” | Primary · Archive |
| 2026-09-14 | payment dispute | TopstepTrader LLC v. Nuvei Technologies Inc. (court filing) | TopstepTrader LLC filed a breach-of-contract complaint against payment processor Nuvei Technologies Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona (2:26-cv-06567). The claims are allegations, not findings. We did not retrieve the complaint PDF on this pass (CourtListener day quota exhausted; RECAP PDF not free at the storage URL we tried). No quote (docket metadata only) | Primary |
Dates marked with an archive window mean the event appears between two Wayback captures (we give both). An “upper bound” means the wording was already live by that capture. We do not invent a day inside a window.
What we left out
Plenty of February 2024 drama is documented only in trade press (Eightcap ending prop brokerage; Blackbull cutting Funding Pips; Match-Trade’s reported 5 Apr 2024 SurgeTrader notice). Where we could not retrieve the firm’s or broker’s own dated notice, or a pleading PDF, the episode stays in the secondary column or off the table. Save Page Now currently requires a Wayback login from this host (HTTP 401 on 2 Oct 2026), so new captures wait.
- Funding Pips’ 14 Feb 2024 client notices and CEO posts: quoted by Finance Magnates; no archived firm page or tweet capture on this pass.
- SurgeTrader Match-Trader termination / 24 May 2024 closure wording: reported by trade press; firm homepage archives we retrieved show only the migration banner.
- Detailed Topstep v. Nuvei complaint allegations (transaction counts, withheld amounts): summarized by Arizona Courts Daily from a PDF we have not independently retrieved.
Methodology
On 2 October 2026 we re-checked Wayback availability and CDX (both returned HTTP 200), then pulled firm and policy captures for MetaQuotes-era freezes, Stripe’s restricted-businesses list, SurgeTrader’s homepage, True Forex Funds’ closure notice, Match-Trader’s Funding Pips case study, and the TopstepTrader v. Nuvei docket metadata already screened for our Lawsuits Tracker. CourtListener’s API was day-throttled (250/day) during this build, so we did not pull the complaint PDF.
Inclusion rule: at least one primary URL with a reproducible date (exact page date, docket filed date, or bounded Wayback pair). Categories: platform license, platform migration, payment policy, payment dispute, firm closure. Related reading: Lawsuits Tracker, US Availability (MetaQuotes/US platform limits), Rule Change Index.

Common questions
What is a prop firm platform or payment-rail shock?
A dated event where a trading-platform license, broker feed or payment processor is withdrawn, restricted or disputed in a way that freezes, migrates or closes prop-firm operations. This page only lists events with a primary source.
Did MetaQuotes ban all prop firms?
We do not have a MetaQuotes public policy statement saying that. What we can show from primary sources is True Forex Funds' own February 2024 notice that MetaQuotes terminated its licenses, and Match-Trader's February 2024 post that Funding Pips migrated after its platform was blocked.
Can prop firms use Stripe?
Stripe's own restricted-businesses page currently lists 'Funded prop trading' under Prohibited Businesses (checked 2 October 2026). An April 2024 Wayback capture already listed the same phrase under Restricted Businesses. That is Stripe's published policy, not a list of which firms were closed.
What is TopstepTrader v. Nuvei about?
A federal breach-of-contract case TopstepTrader LLC filed against Nuvei Technologies Inc. on 14 September 2026 in the District of Arizona. The docket is public; the detailed complaint allegations are not reproduced here because we have not retrieved the pleading PDF. Allegations are not findings.
