Prop Firm Rule Change Index: How Often Firms Change the Rules After You’ve Paid

Last updated: 2 October 2026 How often do prop firms change the rules after you’ve paid? We counted every dated, documented change we could prove at the 10 firms we track since January 2023. Each one comes with the firm’s exact wording, before and after, and a link to an archived copy of the page or to our own changelog. Promo-code churn is counted separately, because it’s a different kind of change. Our Pass-Rate & Disclosure Registry tracks the other thing firms quietly change: the numbers they publish.

The short version

Key findings · documented changes only

37 documented rule changes at 10 firms since 2023, and 25 of them in the last 12 months. 23 are confirmed in Wayback Machine captures of the firm’s own pages, with before-and-after wording. The other 14 are in our own dated changelog, quoted from the firm at the time, but no archive copy of the firm page exists to back them up yet. This is a floor, not a census. A change we have no capture of isn’t here.

Payout rules change most. 12 of the 37 changes were to payout rules or splits, then 7 to prices and fees and 6 product discontinuations or restructures. Topstep alone changed its payout rules 6 times between December 2024 and April 2026: a $5,000 per-request cap, a move to Live after 5 payouts, a lower winning-day threshold, Express days no longer counting toward 30, 90/10 replacing 100% of the first $10,000, and lower caps for new No Activation Fee accounts.

Topstep is the most frequent changer we can prove, and the best archived. It has 10 archive-confirmed changes, 5 in the last 12 months. The most recent was on 14 September 2026, when the Combine consistency target went from 50% to 55%. Apex Trader Funding has 11 (7 archive-confirmed), including the March 2026 restructure that turned its existing accounts into “Legacy” ones. Topstep’s help center has 193 archived captures across the pages we checked, more than any other firm, so part of its lead is simply that more of its history is visible.

Summer 2026 was busy. 15 changes at 7 firms fell in July and August 2026 alone: minimum trading days went up at Goat Funded Trader and down at Take Profit Trader, FundingPips reopened to US traders and dropped two products, MyFundedFutures ended subscriptions, and Take Profit Trader tripled its micro commission. Our weekly changelog started in July 2026, so we see recent months in more detail than earlier ones. Read the recent cluster with that in mind.

A higher price is often just a sale ending. Three of the four Tradeify reset-fee “increases” we logged in August were struck-through sale prices disappearing, not list-price rises. FundedNext Futures went from $99 to $129 at 25K in May 2025 the same way. We count those as promo churn, not rule changes, and promo churn is constant: Goat Funded Trader’s homepage code changed 6 times between March and December 2025.

Changes per firm

“Documented” means a dated change with the firm’s exact wording. “Archive” means we found it in Wayback Machine captures of the firm’s own pages. “Our log” means it’s in our dated changelog but not yet in an archive. The last 12 months run from 2 October 2025 to 1 October 2026.

FTMO0 (0 archive, 0 our log)0—None detected73

Zero means none detected, not none made. FTMO’s trading-objectives page is only archived from December 2025 and its prices load in the browser, so archives can’t see them. The5ers’ archived High Stakes page alternates between two templates, which makes many captures hard to compare. FundedNext, FundingPips and Tradeify have little archived help-center history. Apex and FundingPips block automated checks, so their live pages had to be read by hand.

Promo churn, counted separately

Discount codes and sale prices change all the time, and none of these changes your rules. They do change what you pay, which is why a “price rise” is often a sale ending. These items are not in the counts above.

What we left out

Our own mistakes. Some “changes” in our changelog were really corrections to our own data, and they aren’t counted: the graduated Apex activation fee we published from 8 to 26 August 2026 (correction), FTMO’s profit split shown as one number, FTMO’s deal shown as “$499”, a “NOFEE100” Take Profit Trader code that doesn’t exist, and a WORLDCUP50 Goat Funded Trader code that wasn’t on its site. Building this index also caught one more: our 26 August log listed four Tradeify reset-fee increases. The archive confirms one list-price change (Select 50K, $99 → $109; we had written $95, which was the sale price). On the other three tiers, a struck-through sale price disappeared, so we count those as promo churn.

Launches. New products, such as Topstep’s Back2Funded (3 September 2025) or MyFundedFutures’ Rapid EOD plan, don’t change anything you already bought, so they aren’t counted. They’re in the CSV, marked as not counted.

Disclosure changes. Apex stopped showing activation-fee amounts publicly (seen 1 October 2026), and MyFundedFutures removed its dated pass rate. Those belong in the Pass-Rate & Disclosure Registry, not here.

Which way each change cut. Some changes help traders (Apex’s $500 minimum withdrawal, Take Profit Trader’s 3-day evaluation) and some hurt (Topstep’s 90/10, the micro commission tripling). We haven’t scored them. Many cut both ways depending on how you trade, so we give you the wording and let you judge.

Methodology

Sources: our own rule-change log (posts dated 13 July to 26 August 2026), our 1 October 2026 re-verification notes, and a Wayback Machine backfill. For the backfill we used the CDX API to list captures from January 2023 of each firm’s homepage (one a month) and of 28 help-center and rules pages, the ones our source map uses for payout, drawdown, consistency, activation, country and pricing rules. We downloaded every distinct capture of the help pages, diffed each capture against the one before, and read every change by hand. A change counts only if it changes something a buyer gets or pays: price, drawdown or loss limits, payout rules or split, consistency, activation fees, availability, or a product being withdrawn. Reworded text, page redesigns and promotions don’t count.

Every archive event has an exact quote from the “after” capture and, where the old wording existed, from the “before” capture. A script checks that each quote appears verbatim in the capture text, and that the new wording is missing from the earlier capture. All quotes passed. Our-log events quote our own changelog entry, which in turn quoted the firm. They’re labelled as such because no archive copy of the firm page exists.

Limits: changes are detected from snapshots, so we only see what was captured. Dates are capture dates (UTC) unless the firm states an effective date. The real change can be anywhere between the “before” and “after” captures, and the CSV gives that window. Some firms are archived much more than others, and content that loads in the browser, such as FTMO’s prices, often isn’t in the archive. Firms that block automated checks (Apex, FundingPips) have thinner coverage. Treat every count as a minimum. Read the full site methodology.

Common questions

How often do prop firms change their rules?

Often enough to plan for. Across the 10 firms we track we documented 37 rule changes since January 2023, 25 of them between October 2025 and October 2026. That's a minimum: we only count changes with a date and the firm's exact wording, from archived pages or our own changelog.

Which prop firm changes its rules most often?

Of the changes we can prove, Topstep has the most archive-confirmed ones (10 since late 2024, 5 in the last 12 months), and Apex Trader Funding has 11 in total. Topstep is also the most heavily archived firm, so more of its changes are visible.

What do prop firms change most?

Payout rules and splits: 12 of the 37 documented changes. Prices and fees come next (7), then products being discontinued or restructured (6).

Can a prop firm change the rules on an account I already bought?

Often the new rules apply only to accounts bought after a cut-off date. Goat Funded Trader's 4-day funded minimum, Take Profit Trader's 3-day evaluation and Topstep's 2026 payout caps were all tied to purchase dates. Not every change is grandfathered, so check the firm's announcement and terms.

Is a price increase a rule change?

Sometimes it's just a sale ending. Several 'increases' we logged turned out to be struck-through sale prices disappearing. We count list-price changes as rule changes and report sales and promo codes separately.

Monthly summary: the changes since June 2026 are rounded up in State of Prop Firms: October 2026. For what each rule term means, see the Prop Firm Rules Glossary.
