Interest-rate decisions move bond, currency and index futures, the markets most prop accounts trade. Many firms restrict trading around FOMC announcements; our news trading calendar lists each firm’s rule and CPI and jobs-report day moves shows how much markets move on data days.

Financial conditions pulse (added 15 October 2026)

US financial conditions are still loose by both Fed gauges, but stress ticked up in early October. The St. Louis Fed’s stress index rose from −0.8086 on 25 September to −0.4675 on 2 October before falling back to −0.7206 in the week to 9 October. Zero means normal stress; below zero means less than normal. The Chicago Fed’s NFCI was −0.499, also looser than average, but slightly tighter than a year earlier (−0.521).

The dollar is near its 2026 high. The Fed’s broad dollar index was 121.60 on 9 October, just under its 2026 peak of 121.79 on 1 October and up from 117.44 at the end of January. The 10-year Treasury yield was 5.21% on 13 October and VIX 16.87 on 14 October, as in the table above.

Both stress indexes are weekly, built from dozens of market series such as interest-rate spreads and volatility, and published by the regional Feds through FRED. A rising reading in the run-up to an FOMC meeting can mean wider futures ranges. BIS rates are the latest month BIS had published on 14 October 2026, compared with the same month a year earlier.
