Last updated: 8 October 2026 TopstepTrader LLC filed a breach-of-contract complaint against payments company Nuvei Technologies on 14 September 2026. The claims are allegations, not findings. It is the latest entry in a short, primary-source timeline of the payment and platform shocks that have hit prop firms since early 2024, from Stripe’s business-restriction list to platform licence terminations.
TopstepTrader v. Nuvei (D. Ariz. 2:26-cv-06567, filed 14 Sep 2026) is an open contract suit. We have not yet read the complaint.
Stripe listed “Funded prop trading” under Restricted Businesses by 8 April 2024 (Wayback archive). On our 2 October 2026 check, the same phrase sat under Prohibited Businesses.
True Forex Funds said in February 2024 that MetaQuotes had terminated its licences, and it froze services. In May 2024 it closed, citing insolvency. We don’t claim the first event caused the second.
Four of five forex/CFD firms we track keep US residents off MetaTrader platforms.
The timeline
Our Platform & Payment Shocks page records six dated events, each with a primary source:
| Date | Event | Primary source |
|---|---|---|
| 2 Feb 2024 | True Forex Funds published a notice that MetaQuotes had terminated its MT licences and that it was freezing services temporarily. The reason given is the firm’s account; we found no matching MetaQuotes notice. | Firm homepage (Wayback) |
| 21 Feb 2024 | A Match-Trader case study said Funding Pips’ previous platform had been blocked and that about 100,000 accounts had migrated. (Vendor claim.) | Match-Trader case study |
| 8 Apr 2024 | Stripe’s restricted-businesses list gained an explicit “Funded prop trading” line under Restricted Businesses. By 2 Oct 2026 the phrase sat under Prohibited Businesses; we don’t have an archive date for the move. | Stripe Restricted Businesses page (Wayback; live check 2 Oct 2026) |
| 17 Apr 2024 | SurgeTrader’s homepage said it was migrating all traders to a new platform. | Firm homepage (Wayback) |
| 13 May 2024 | True Forex Funds replaced its site with a permanent-closure notice citing financial insolvency. | Firm homepage (Wayback); CFTC RED List entry 12 Jun 2023 |
| 14 Sep 2026 | TopstepTrader LLC filed a breach-of-contract complaint against Nuvei Technologies Inc. (D. Ariz.). Allegations, not findings. | CourtListener docket 2:26-cv-06567 |
US traders and MetaTrader
Our US Availability Tracker records each firm’s own wording on US residents. Four of the five forex/CFD firms we track keep US residents off MetaTrader: The5ers prohibits MetaQuotes platforms for US residents; FundingPips and FundedNext accept US CFD traders on Match-Trader only; Goat Funded Trader does not offer MT5 or cTrader to US clients. FTMO serves US clients only through OANDA at ftmo.oanda.com; we have not checked which platforms that site offers. Futures firms (Topstep, Apex, Tradeify, MyFundedFutures, Take Profit Trader) run on futures platforms, not MetaTrader.
What this timeline is not
- It is not a claim that Stripe refuses every prop firm, or that MetaQuotes has a policy against them. It records dated events with primary sources.
- The Nuvei suit is an allegation. We state only what the docket shows until we have read the complaint.
- Six events is a thin sample. Closures without a primary notice are on the graveyard page instead, or are left out.
