High yield is the highest accepted yield, the rate the whole auction clears at. Bid-to-cover is total bids divided by the amount sold; a lower number means weaker demand. TIPS and floating-rate notes are left out.

Why traders watch auctions

Big auctions can move Treasury futures such as ZN and ZB, and a weak result around 1:00 PM ET can spill into index futures. Most prop firms do not list auctions as restricted news, but traders who hold bond futures often avoid opening positions just before the result. See our rates desk and news trading calendar.

Method

Upcoming auctions are every entry in the Treasury’s upcoming-auctions dataset with an auction date on or after 14 October 2026. Results are note and bond auctions since 1 July 2026 that are neither inflation-protected (TIPS) nor floating-rate.

Reopenings sell more of an existing security, so the remaining term is slightly shorter than the original (a 10-year reopened a month later shows as 9 years 10 months). We label them by original term.

Caveats

The schedule can change. The Treasury announces each auction’s size and details a few days before; check TreasuryDirect on the day.

The 22 October 5-year auction is shown as the Treasury lists it before announcement; its exact type will be confirmed in the announcement.

Common questions

When is the next Treasury auction?

A 17-week bill auction on 14 October 2026, followed by 8-week and 4-week bills on 15 October. The next coupon auction is the 20-year bond reopening on 21 October 2026.

What time are Treasury auction results released?

Note and bond auctions close at 1:00 PM ET and results follow within minutes. Bill auctions close at 11:30 AM ET.

What does bid-to-cover mean?

Total bids divided by the amount sold. A ratio of 2.5 means investors bid for two and a half times what was on offer.

Do Treasury auctions move futures?

They can, especially 10-year and 30-year auctions. A result that clears well above the yield traded just before 1:00 PM is called a tail and can push bond futures lower.
